General descriptionPoly(vinylidene fluoride) PVDF is a semi crystalline non-centrosymmetric polymer which exhibits piezo-, pyro- and ferro electric properties. It is a linear polymer that shows permanent electric dipoles perpendicular to the direction of the molecular chain. These dipoles result from the difference in electro negativity between the atoms of hydrogen and fluorine with respect to carbon. Depending on the processing conditions, PVDF exhibits several different crystalline phases (α,β,γ,δ). The β phase of PVDF is the phase that exhibits the best ferro electric and piezoelectric properties.[1][2][3][4] Application Poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is used in nano porous electrodes.[5] It is used to synthesize composites comprising of ultra fine fibers of PVDF embedded with carbon nanotubes.[2] It can be used in sensors, actuators, for energy storage,[1] sphygmomanometers, pressure sensors and nano generators, [4] lithium ion batteries.[6] Additionally, it may find application as matrix for PVDF-nanoclay nanocomposites[7] and PVDF acrylic rubber/clay nano composite hybrid.[8]

Safety precautions

The homo polymer of vinylidene fluoride (VQF) begin to have a slight decomposition with HF gas released above300°C. Avoid processing or using the products at the temperature above 370°C in order to prevent toxic gas release

Workers should avoid breathing in harmful gases during processing and wear necessary labor protection stuff.

Keep the dust away from being breathed in nasal cavity and infecting eyes.

After production, have a complete clean up of faces and hands.

Disposal of the wastes produced in the processing must be dealt with by specialized personnel for waste disposal and should be conducted according to waste regulations in relevant countries, regions and local places,

Storage and disposal

The products should be stored in clean, cool, shady, and dry warehouses so as to avoid the mix with dust and moisture. During transportation, violent vibration must be avoided. Prevent any cases aggregation
